God meets our need for security by promising never to leave us or forsake us and by keeping that promise. He always meets our needs for food, clothing, and shelter. He is our ever-present help in times of trouble, and His loving-kindness is new every morning (see Psalm 46:1, Lamentations 3:23). We can count on Him to be faithful and unchangeable—the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He gives eternal security for those who trust in Christ as their Savior. “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28, NIV).

As we receive security from God, we are able to give security in marriage. To give security means I (Teresa) live in such a way as to let my husband know that I am committed to him and only him, that I will always be true to our wedding vows and forsake all others.

Security means providing for the financial needs of my family. It may mean operating on a budget, having a good work ethic, developing marketable skills, and providing a secure financial future in case of illness or death.

Security means refraining from making threats to leave or abandon my family. It means committing myself to protecting my family from physical and emotional harm. It means that I refrain from harming my spouse or children in any way. Security means not losing my temper with my spouse or raising my voice to my children. It means being dependable and keeping promises.

An intimate marriage is only possible when both spouses feel confident of a supportive, caring relationship. An intimate family is only possible when all members feel secure.
