Bumper Stickers And Love
love - Bumper Stickers and Love
What a man desires is unfailing love. Proverbs 19:22, NIV
I (David) love bumper stickers. Some of them are genuinely funny. One I saw a few months ago said, “Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most.” I can identify. I can also identify with the bumper sticker that said, “I love my wife.”
I don’t know what the husband’s motive was in using the rear end of his car as the place to declare his love for his spouse, but I will assume that he wanted people to know that he was not ashamed to tell others that he loved his wife. Pretty brave guy.
I would like to think that the man’s wife feels pleased and secure to have her husband openly declare his love. I also hope that she knows through many other things he does that he loves her deeply.
God, I would like my spouse to feel secure in my love. Help me to proclaim my love through my actions each day.
While I would never think of announcing my love for Teresa on a bumper sticker, I want to declare it in ways that tell her—and others around us—that I love her deeply. The wisdom of Proverbs reminds us that our desire is for the security of love; “unfailing love” it is called. I wonder if Teresa feels secure in my love or if I leave her with doubts.
How about you? Does your spouse feel secure in your love? How do you let your spouse know that you love him or her? Do you say the words “I love you” often, or do you think that if you say them once a week, that’s enough? Do you show your love through actions that are meaningful to your spouse? In the next few days, talk to your spouse about these things and learn whether he or she feels secure.
What will you do today to let your spouse—and others around you—know that you love him or her?
