Let the peace of God rule in your hearts. Colossians 3:15

We have been blessed with the opportunity to do many ministry seminars across the country and overseas. We greatly enjoy doing these things, but I (Teresa) have to admit that I am a little less enamored with the travel than David is.

In spite of the many years we’ve traveled, I always feel somewhat anxious when we are on the road. It isn’t that I think something bad might happen to me while I’m gone. Rather, it’s an anxiety born of my being away from home—my place of peace, my place where I feel anchored. No matter how unpredictable my life may be, home always feels stable and good. Often when we are on the road, I tell David I just need to be home and “nest.”

Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz was right. There truly is no place like home. I miss it when I am away and am always glad to get home. It is great to return home to peaceful surroundings after a seminar. This sense of returning to my “peaceful” nest is my frame of reference for the “peace of God.” When I’m resting in His peace, anxiety is gone and a sense of “welcome” fills my heart. Peace is when I feel at rest, relaxed, and the “peace of God” is when I’m relaxing with Him, resting in the security of His care.

I want my home to always be a place where this incredible peace rules. I know that will happen as David and I rest and rely on our Lord, who promises us a peace beyond understanding.
