God’s Mercy Follows You

If you’ve ever walked through some dark and difficult days, you know how they can seem to drag on endlessly. When you’re in the middle of hard times, it’s sometimes hard to remember that these days will not last forever, to remember that goodness and tender mercies are still always coming. The truth is, even when you can’t see it or feel it, God’s mercy is following you, hedging you in, all the days of your life. You can be sure that grace upon grace will be poured out on these dark and difficult days until something new breaks through the hard ground of this current suffering and light floods the dark places and chases away the terrifying shadows—until all you can see is His goodness and mercy filling your days.

So how do you see His goodness when it’s hard to see anything good at all? You look for it. You notice the small ways God’s grace and mercy is filling your days. That smile from a friend, that soft blanket on your skin, that warm cup of coffee or that tiny flower on your path. Look for God’s goodness today. Focus on His mercy. It’s never very far away.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
