God’s Love Is Steadfast

Breathe Deep and Know: Just as nothing can stop the sun from rising or the morning from coming, nothing can stop God’s love and mercy for you.

When we’re in the middle of hard things we can’t control, we can feel desperate to grasp onto something we can do to make it better. It’s as if we think that “pleasing” God by doing enough good things means He’ll answer our prayers and do what we want Him to do and take the hard things away.

But that’s not how God works. Our actions don’t earn God’s goodness. God’s goodness is always first, before we ever do anything. God is good. It’s who He is. His love and His faithfulness are not changed by what we do or don’t do. The love of God never stops. His goodness and kindness and mercy never end.

It is on the foundation of His steadfast love that we pray for healing, not on any good we do to try to earn it. Trusting His kindness is what allows us to know peace, whether the healing we pray for comes or not. Because whatever comes is the kindness of God, and whatever tomorrow may bring, new mercies will always accompany that sunrise.

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
