God Keeps You In Peace

God Keeps You In Peace

Breathe Deep and Know: Peace is not found in denying the dark or hiding your feelings but in turning your thoughts to Christ, no matter your circumstances or emotions.

We all feel emotions. Fear, shame, sadness, grief, panic, loneliness, anger, and joy are all part of the human experience. And it’s okay to feel your feelings. They are part of how God made us. Experiencing emotions is not the problem. It’s how we respond to our emotions that can cause us problems. But how do we change how we respond to our emotions? By changing how we focus our thoughts, no matter how we are feeling.

Strong emotions like anxiety tend to make us focus on ourselves and on the discomfort our feelings are causing. Remember Peter, walking on the water toward Jesus (Matthew 14:28–30)? When he took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the waves, he began to sink. In a similar way, when our attention is focused on our emotions and the size of the waves of worry we’re feeling, we can quickly lose peace and feel like we are drowning. But if we fix our focus on Christ and His love for us, we will have a better perspective as we work through our feelings, and we can begin to respond to our emotions in a way that draws us closer to Him.

Keep your thoughts on Him today, and you can experience peace no matter the waves that surround you.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
