God Is Your Shield

Breathe Deep and Know: You can rest behind God as your shield, knowing He will help you and protect you.

A shield’s purpose is to protect. It’s the first line of defense, a literal barrier between you and the danger that is coming at you, helping to ward off attacks. For an enemy to get to you, they must get through the shield first.

We’re good at constructing our own shields, assembling armor around our hearts in an attempt to protect ourselves from the pain and disappointments and worries of this life. But even the strongest shields are imperfect. No shield of our own making will ever be strong enough.

God is your perfect shield and your strength. You don’t have to be strong enough because He is. He is there to protect you and to be the strength you need. Are you feeling weary today? Vulnerable to the attacks of life and an onslaught of worry? Let God be your shield. He is stronger than any enemy that threatens you. His shield of protection will hold steady and sure no matter what weapon is wielded against you.

The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
