Insecurity

I am a speaker by profession—but I have a confession to make. I rarely climb those platform steps as I’m being introduced without feeling insecure. The relentless, nagging, destructive voice of the enemy is always whispering as I climb each step, “You’re not good enough, they’re going to hate you, you didn’t prepare well enough, you won’t be as good as ______.” We all hear that voice, don’t we? Sometimes it’s over our parenting, our homemaking, or even our cooking! (Ask me how I know.) No matter the reason, the tactic is clear: the devil wants to wear us down. The devil wants us to compare ourselves to others because he knows that comparison is the thief of contentment. Stand firm. Your worth comes from the One in whom we find our ultimate security. His name is Jesus. Never allow the accuser to define your worth or position. You are what God says you are: loved, chosen, redeemed.

WHEN YOU’RE TEMPTED TO COMPARE YOUR MOTHERING WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S . . .

Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these [others] who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!

WHEN INSECURITY CLOUDS YOUR THINKING . . .

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
