Infertility

Few words strike more fear into the heart of a woman than the word infertile. Over the past thirty years, I’ve sat and cried with many women who have struggled to conceive. It’s devastating—and for many couples, what hurts the most is the reality that the life they’re living is not going to look like the one they had planned. We like to think we’re in control. We have our reminder apps on our smartphones and our beautifully illustrated daily planners complete with inspirational sayings. But in the end there are some things we can’t plan for. There are some things that we cannot control, including our ability to conceive a child. And while there are no simple words of consolation for the woman who longs to have a child of her own, there is hope. Our hope is found in the knowledge that even when things feel beyond our control, God’s plans for us are good. He cares. Let Him comfort you. Run to Him. Fall into His arms—and trust Him. His heart toward you is good.

WHEN YOUR ARMS ACHE FOR A CHILD . . .

I am counting on the LORD;

yes, I am counting on him.

I have put my hope in his word.

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

WHEN YOUR PRAYERS FOR A CHILD HAVE BEEN ANSWERED . . .

He gives the childless woman a family,

making her a happy mother.

WHEN YOU NEED TO HEAR THAT GOD CAN DO ANYTHING . . .

Isaac pleaded with the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was unable to have children. The LORD answered Isaac’s prayer, and Rebekah became pregnant with twins.

It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise.

WHEN YOUR LONGING CAUSES YOU TO DOUBT GOD’S HEART . . .

The LORD God is our sun and our shield.

He gives us grace and glory.

The LORD will withhold no good thing

from those who do what is right.
