Beautiful Word Devotional #97
You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house.
1 Peter 2:5
A house needs a proper foundation to be able to withstand all sorts of conditions. After watching home improvement television, we also know just how important good bones are to a house. You can decorate a home until you make Fixer Upper’s Joanna Gaines take notice, but that’s wasted time and effort if the house falls down around you. Decorating a poorly built home or a house standing on a weak foundation is like putting eyelash extensions on a weasel: completely futile and worthless.
The Almighty God, however, is the perfect construction worker who is building his people into a spiritual house. He first does a lot of unseen work to ensure that our lives are built solidly on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ. The bones of God’s spiritual house are prayer, fellowship, study of the Word, and obedience, and they must be securely in place. Is that true for you?
Lord, help me keep in place prayer, fellowship, study of the Word, and obedience so that I’m a strong bone in your spiritual house, amen.
