And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

We read this promise that God works all things for our good, but what exactly is our good? Is it that we achieve fame? Have lots of money? Look great? Succeed in our jobs? The good that God has for us doesn’t involve external factors like these. Our good involves our character.

And we can be absolutely confident that he will work all the circumstances in our lives for our good, to develop in us a more godly character. As we face trials and tribulations, we can be assured that he will use those difficulties to hone our character, to strengthen our faith, and to make us more like Christ.

What amazing grace to have God use life’s pain to make us more like Jesus!

Lord, I’m grateful that you are working in and through my difficult circumstances. I thank you for turning my pain today into a stronger faith tomorrow, amen.
