Beautiful Word Devotional #85

“Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.”

Zechariah 9:12

What does it look like to be a prisoner of hope? You may know people who are prisoners of fear or worry or debt or painful relationships, but a prisoner of hope?

Hope is founded on God’s overarching plan. He created mankind, watched them rebel, chose a nation to represent his glory, watched them rebel again, sent them into captivity, rescued them, sent his Son to die for all of us, then resurrected Jesus Christ. Our faith is based on his life, his death, and his resurrection.

Because of what Jesus did in defeating sin and death, we can become joyful prisoners of hope. We can, for instance, be bound by the hope that God has our good in mind, that today’s painful situation will mean something in light of eternity, that resurrection comes after death.

For what situation in your life could you use a hefty dose of hope?

Lord, thank you that you give me hope for my life, and I’m grateful it’s as secure as a prison, yet gives me the freedom of living in your love, amen.
