Beautiful Word Devotional #74

May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.

Ruth 2:12

Naomi shared this blessing with her daughter-in-law Ruth who sacrificially left her country, family, and life to join her as she returned to her homeland. Noting Ruth’s extreme faith, Naomi spoke words that serve as a sweet example for us today.

First, Ruth made a choice. She did something. When faced between staying in the relative security of her country and following her mother-in-law to a new land, Ruth chose the latter. She risked.

Second, in making this decision, Ruth showed that she trusted God to be her refuge. Even though she was not an Israelite, she trusted in the Jewish God to protect her.

The result? Just as Naomi had prayed, God richly blessed Ruth for her choice and her trust in him.

Lord, I want to choose to trust you today. Give me the courage and faith to be like Ruth, amen.
