If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked.

Proverbs 29:12

Deception is like cancer: it invades and destroys those near it. This is why truth is so vitally important. When we tell the truth about ourselves, we are set free to be ourselves. When we see the world through the lens of God’s truth, we discern good choices and are better equipped to fight on behalf of justice. But if we actively listen to lies, not only can we forget truth, but we also run the risk of affecting—infecting—those we love.

It’s hard not to hear lies today. Just turn on your computer, the TV, your handheld device. You’ll hear that you have to look a certain way to have worth; you have to have specific things to be valuable in this world. Lies swirl around us in a toxic soup, and we can have a hard time discerning the truth.

None of the world’s lies reflects Jesus Christ, his love, his values, his priorities, or his truth about your value. Make time each day to review the truths of who you are in Jesus.

Lord, today, I choose truth. I choose to believe you’ve made me beautiful and you love me, amen.
