Beautiful Word Devotional #51

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:14

If you’ve ever run in a race, you know those moments when you feel like giving up. Sometimes the only thing that keeps you huffing and puffing along is the prize awaiting you at the finish line. And sometimes the prize is simply crossing that line.

It’s the same in our lives. Obstacles prevent us from moving forward, so with God’s power we jump over them. Our strength falls away, so we ask God for his supernatural strength to face the next trial. Grief makes us breathless, so we mourn, Jesus alongside, and we determine to keep walking.

Why do we keep going? Why do we persevere?

Because the race has a finish line. Someday, God will reward us for finishing the race he mapped out for us. He will have noticed our quiet victories on earth. He knows and understands every moment of our race.

So keep moving. Keep taking one step after another. Reaching the finish line will be worth it.

Lord, I’m weary of this race. Please help me—empower me—to press on to the end, amen.
