Beautiful Word Devotional #39

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Isaiah 30:21

Life can be confusing, particularly when you’re trying to make important decisions about your future and need guidance from the Lord.

Isaiah the prophet was in such a situation: he was trying to hear God’s instructions for an entire nation! So this promise from God was especially encouraging.

But what can you do when you don’t hear God’s voice, when his direction isn’t clear and doesn’t seem forthcoming? First, remember that God speaks in a variety of ways.

Go to God’s Word. When you need wisdom, spend some time reading in the book of Proverbs and meditating on those truths.

Go to God’s body. When you’re confused about your next step, ask a Christian friend for advice. Share your story openly, ask for counsel, and pray together for discernment.

Go to God himself. Pray directly to him, asking him for help.

Lord, I need to know what my next step is. Please give me wisdom through your Word, through your people, or now as I listen, amen.
