Beautiful Word Devotional #345

The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7

At some level we think—wrongly—that we can take care of ourselves, that we can in our own power protect our hearts from harm and our minds from corruption. All we need to do is make the right decisions, develop healthy habits, and have a contingency plan, right? Paul said, “Wrong.” We can’t, by our own willpower, protect our minds and hearts or find the kind of peace God wants us to experience. The supernatural peace God has for us defies explanation as we experience it in the most unlikely situations, in the most painful or stressful seasons of life, in the darkest or stormiest of times, when we have no reason at all to be at peace.

But when we approach God—which we are able to do because of Jesus—and entrust our lives to him, he will give us this peace that sustains us. His peace also serves as a shield protecting our hearts and minds against worries, fears, and doubts.

Lord, thank you for your indescribable peace and the protection it offers my mind and my heart, amen.
