Beautiful Word Devotional #317

“I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

Matthew 16:18

You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” That was Peter’s bold statement that prompted Jesus’ words above. Many scholars understand Jesus to mean that this truth about himself being God’s Son, Messiah, and Lord would be the foundation of believers collectively being the church but also individually.

Is your life built on the idea of Jesus’ lordship? Recognizing Jesus as your Savior is not the same as naming him your Lord. When we acknowledge our sins, confess them, and choose to believe that Jesus was the perfect sacrifice who paid the penalty for them, we accept him as our Savior.

To live with Jesus as our Lord, though, means following him every single day, asking what he wants for our lives, and obeying him. Already secure in our relationship with him, we now demonstrate our gratitude by surrendering to his will for our lives. That is building our lives on a rock-solid foundation.

Lord, I praise you, my Savior. Help me to live with you as my Lord, amen.
