Beautiful Word Devotional #279

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1

Jesus spoke clearly: “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33). And all of us can attest to that truth. How much harder it would be, though, if we had to face every problem alone, without the help of our ever-present God, our refuge, and our strength.

First, God is our refuge: he is the best place to go when life careens out of control and a safe haven when people have hurt us. God shelters us, takes care of us, nurses our souls back to health, and protects us from further trouble.

Second, God is our strength. When we—who are made of dust—grow weak, he provides the energy and power we need to live a life that honors him. When we are mentally or emotionally spent, he again fills us with his strength.

Third, God is our ever-present help. He will always be with us, and he will always be helping us. Always.

What a friend you have in God! He loves you and longs to protect and help you.

Lord, may I never hesitate to turn to you, my refuge, strength, and help, amen.
