Beautiful Word Devotional #245

Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.

Matthew 14:25

No one else in the history of the world has ever walked on water in his own power because it’s totally impossible. The heaviness of the human body cannot stay on the surface of the water.

Yet the God we serve is not stopped or even slowed down by the seeming impossible. The infinite God of the Bible stooped, came in human flesh to this earth, to show us how to live and love, and—as the supreme act of love—died on the cross for our sins. While he was here, this God-man often overrode natural law by healing the lame and the blind, feeding big crowds with small snacks, and, yes, walking on water.

The only One who could override the laws of nature would be the One who established those laws in the first place. So, acting on his great love for us, Jesus the Son of God took on human flesh. His death showed us his humanity, and—like his walking on water—his resurrection showed us his divinity.

Lord, thank you who are the God-man for dying and for rising from death, amen.
