Beautiful Word Devotional #218

“Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Mark 10:45

Jesus is the King and Creator of the universe. He fashioned everything you see—the cosmos, the solar system, our earth; mountains, deserts, oceans; and every single person who has walked this planet. He is worthy of our reverence and awe, our respect and devotion.

You would think that when he came to earth, he would have enjoyed the privileges of royalty. But Jesus took “the very nature of a servant” and “humbled himself by becoming obedient to death” (Philippians 2:7–8). He came to show how we all should live—as servants. Jesus served in many ways, healing the sick, freeing the demoniac, enabling the lame to walk and the blind to see, and raising the dead. Jesus taught the Pharisee, the Samaritan woman, and common Jewish fishermen. And in his ultimate act as a Servant, Jesus died on the cross, ransoming you from eternal death.

Live out your gratitude by serving as your Lord served.

Lord, give me your perspective on this world: show me whom you would have me serve in your name, amen.
