Beautiful Word Devotional #210

I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.

Psalm 140:12

The psalmist says, “I know.” He had experienced God’s justice. He had observed the way God stands up for those who could not defend themselves. The psalmist knew that God sides with the oppressed.

Yet we may struggle in the world today to see the Lord as the Advocate of the downtrodden. It’s hard to see the hand of God at work in so much suffering. But we cannot see as he does. In the chaos, we cannot see the stories he’s bringing to God-glorifying closure.

The truth is, God is at work behind the scenes, and he will inevitably right the wrongs and bring ultimate justice to the world.

Even so, as we wait and as suffering continues, we must pray for our world, asking God for his just and perfect will to happen on earth as it is accomplished in heaven.

Lord, please work on behalf of the poor and the broken. Help me to see them, too, so that you can use me in your efforts. I want to be part of your work in their lives, amen.
