Beautiful Word Devotional #196

Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.

Psalm 127:3

What a beautiful gift children are! Maybe you have children, or maybe you’re connected to children through your extended family, friends, church, work, or neighborhood. Wherever we come in contact with children, it’s important to see them as Jesus did—valuable, worthy of his love and attention, and uniquely receptive to the kingdom of God.

Children teach us to have simple faith. They trust and believe the truths of the kingdom more readily than our cynical minds do. They believe big.

Children model dependence. They can’t do everything adults can do, so they have to humbly rely on other people for pretty much everything. They serve as an example of trust that food, clothes, shelter, and love will come.

Children tend to love well—even difficult people. Their innocent, generous affection encourages us to approach our relationships this way.

Children truly are a reward and a blessing!

Lord, thank you for placing children in my life. Help me to learn from them today, amen.
