Beautiful Word Devotional #183

“I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Jeremiah 31:34

Have you ever had a friend who knows something bad that you did and never lets you forget it? Thankfully, God is not at all like that “friend.” We find evidence in today’s verse where he promised the nation of Israel something beautiful: a clean slate.

God promised to forgive their wickedness. He resolved to not remember their sins.

This beautiful promise foreshadowed what he would do—and does do—for all of us in the crucifixion. This promise is for you today. God will forgive your sins. He will not remember them or hold them against you.

In light of that, God commands you and me to forgive people who have sinned against us—and the Holy Spirit enables us to do just that. You can forgive. You can choose to stop thinking about their sins against you. You can reflect the amazing love of Jesus in the way you treat those who have sinned against you.

Lord, thank you for not remembering my sins. Help me honor you by forgiving those who have hurt me, amen.
