Beautiful Word Devotional #179

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

James 5:16

What is your reaction when you read that verse? Do you feel intimidated? We may not think this verse describes us because of that scary word righteous. We are well aware of our sins; seldom do we feel righteous. So we disqualify ourselves from the hope of this statement.

But this verse absolutely does apply to you, for Jesus has made you righteous. Because of his life, death, and resurrection, you are placed in right standing with God. Your position as his child is utterly secure because it’s based on Jesus’ righteousness.

With this spiritual truth in mind, you can kneel before God knowing that your prayers will be powerful and effective. You can pray that God would supply your needs and be assured that provision will come in surprising ways.

You have been made righteous: Jesus took on your sins and died on the cross so that you could be dressed in his righteousness. God hears your prayers and answers. Rejoice in that amazing truth today.

Lord, thank you that I’m made righteous by you, and thank you that you hear my prayers, amen.
