Beautiful Word Devotional #176

Be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.

1 Peter 3:8

Like-mindedness, sympathy, love, compassion, and humility—the apostle Peter called first-century believers to demonstrate these traits in their life together.

To be like-minded means to share similar passions and goals, get along, and joyfully pursue ministry together.

To have sympathy is to see things so clearly from another’s perspective that you share his or her feelings.

To love is to act according to the truth that all people are different, but they all deserve to be accepted.

To have compassion is to be moved to action on behalf of someone who is suffering.

To have humility is to consider others as more important than yourself. It’s also to choose to humble yourself under God.

Not only do all these traits make for a great church community, but they can also enrich the community of a family. Consider today how you might bring like-mindedness, sympathy, love, compassion, and humility into your home.

Lord, thank you for enabling us to do in our church and our homes what you call us to do—to be like-minded, amen.
