Beautiful Word Devotional #171

It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.

Deuteronomy 13:4

It used to be easier to go to the grocery store and pick up some ice cream. The options were fairly limited: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate chip. Today more choices exist, including low-fat, lactose-free, designer flavors, seasonal varieties, the knock-off brand, and the name brand that is on sale. Someone just tell me what to buy!

When we choose how to live, we also have options: whom will we follow? The world has its suggestions (money, possessions, status). We can pour ourselves into our family or home. The Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and others offer spiritual paths. Someone just tell me whom to follow!

God’s Word does exactly that. Speaking on behalf of the Almighty, Moses clearly said, “It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere.” Doing so will be challenging at times, but you can know you are definitely on the right path.

Lord, thank you for taking the guesswork out of whom to follow and invest my life in. Help me follow you closely and honor you all my days.
