None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.

John 21:12

The Man on the shore had told the tired disciples to cast their nets into the water one more time. The result after they’d come up empty overnight was 153 fish. Then they heard the Man invite them to join him for breakfast, and this is where today’s verse comes in. It was no mystery to the disciples who this Man was: the resurrected Jesus, their Friend and their Lord.

Confidence about the claim that Jesus defeated death is crucial because Jesus’ resurrection changed everything. It ushered in an eternal spiritual kingdom that cannot be shaken, one established on the foundation of a sinless life, a perfect sacrifice, and a conquering resurrection.

And this resurrected Jesus loves you. He who died for you also rose to life, conquering sin and death! You are a beneficiary of that powerful love. Right now, as you read these words, Jesus is alive, interceding for you, loving you now and for eternity. No wonder they call the gospel the good news!

Lord, thank you for conquering death and ushering in the promise of eternal life with you. I’m grateful, amen.
