Beautiful Word Devotional #140
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
Romans 5:9
We don’t speak much about God’s wrath these days. We prefer to talk about his love. But we must understand God’s wrath in order to better grasp the depth of his love.
We are naturally sinners, unable to make ourselves holy, and that is the requirement for entering God’s presence. As sinners, then, we were without hope. Sin is so terrible that it takes a blood sacrifice to cover over it, to usher in forgiveness. So God sent Jesus as a once-and-for-all sacrifice. His blood paid the price for everyone’s sin—everyone in the whole world, including you.
Jesus satisfied God’s requirement of holiness by living a sinless life. Then, as the spotless Lamb, Jesus died: he was the blood sacrifice that God’s Law required. And Jesus’ death ushered us into the era of grace. God welcomes us into relationship with him because of Jesus’ shed blood. What a Savior!
Lord, I don’t know how to thank you for dying for me, for shedding your blood on my behalf. But I am so grateful you did, amen.
