Beautiful Word Devotional #108

[Paul and Silas] replied [to the jailer], “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”

Acts 16:31

It was a typical night. Had a couple new prisoners. I put ’em in stocks . . . where they sat and sang, sounding peaceful, even joyful. That was a little unusual. But things got stranger. Around midnight there was an earthquake that somehow opened all the prison doors and—I still haven’t figured this out—unfastened all the inmates’ chains! Escaped prisoners would mean the death penalty for me, so I drew my sword to simplify things. But the prisoner named Paul said, ‘Stop! Everyone’s here!’. . . . And I can’t explain this either, but there was something different about that man . . . because of his relationship to God. Paul told me about Jesus. And I haven’t been the same since that night. Since believing in the Lord Jesus.”

What is your coming-to-faith story? Few of ours could top the jailer’s story! But when we talk about who we were before we believed in Jesus as our Savior, we point to the power and joy of knowing Jesus. And when others see, they may believe as well.

Lord, use me and my story to draw people to belief in you, amen.
