A Spectacle Of Glory #5

A Spectacle of Glory #5

Read: Psalm 42:5-6

Arguing is usually a big waste of time and energy, but there is something to be said for arguing with yourself. In fact, that’s a very biblical thing to do. Go ahead and speak truth and hope into your own soul! That’s what the psalmist did. When he was in distress and felt himself slipping into a dark place, he spoke directly to his own heart: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”

Maybe you’ve been listening to too many negative, hopeless voices . . . on the nightly news . . . in the car pool . . . or on the phone with your friends. Maybe the evil one has been whispering words of death, defeat, and futility into your ear. It’s time to set the record straight! Declare the truth about who you are in Christ. Remind your soul that Jesus is your help and hope, that the Father deeply loves you, and that your future is secure in heaven.

Dear Lord Jesus, I’ve listened too long to cynical words, dark thoughts—and anxieties that buzz around my head like bees. Help me to speak life and peace into my own soul by the power of Your indwelling Holy Spirit.
