A Spectacle Of Glory #330

Read: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-3

Today’s Scripture tells us we should live “to please God” and that “it is God’s will that you should be sanctified.” The word sanctified means “set apart from sin.” That’s a tall order for any of us. But it is doable. Of course, this doesn’t mean we will never sin or stumble—because we certainly will.^a But it does mean that as our walk with Christ progresses through the weeks, months, and years, we will be less and less inclined in that direction. To accomplish this, you have help from out of this world! You are not alone in your struggle. God has placed within you His Holy Spirit, who empowers you to make choices that please God. When you obey the Lord, your focus isn’t on some arbitrary list of dos and don’ts; it is on Jesus. You find yourself obeying because—first and foremost—you really do want to please Him.

Dear God, I want to fill my vision with You. I pause now to let my thoughts linger on who You are in Your kingly majesty . . . right at this moment . . . in the splendor of heaven . . . surrounded by angels and redeemed men and women from all ages. How good, how right, and how fitting it is to consider You and worship You!
