I grew up in a little Reformed Episcopal church—evangelical to the core—where they read the Gospel, sang hymns from the heart, and kneeled in prayer. Our church even had kneelers. Sunday worship was a serious business, and I learned as a little girl what it meant to bend my knees in prayer before the Lord. For the last forty-nine years, however, since the accident that paralyzed me, I haven’t been able to kneel. But the day is coming when I will kneel again!

On the day I receive my new body in heaven, I will rise up on resurrected legs and then drop down on grateful, glorified knees to worship before my Savior. Today, you can choose to do what so many who are elderly or have disabilities cannot do. Read Psalm 95 and—taking the advice of the psalmist—give an outward demonstration of your inward gratitude. Kneel before the Lord, your Maker.

Lord God, You know the secrets of every heart. I’m in awe of Your majesty and glory. I’m humbled by Your kindness, gentleness, and loving concern for me. You are the great King, and even though You have adopted me as Your child, I bow in Your presence—as low as I can.
