A Spectacle Of Glory #271

Many of us at one time or another have wondered how God could love us and still allow so much pain in our lives. It really depends on how we view that word love, doesn’t it? God’s love is not an easy, breezy feeling of infatuation. In fact, God’s love is always best displayed in the midst of pain and hardship. Just hours before the cross, Jesus told His followers, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” God loved us so much that He died to show it. And look what His love has won for us—escape from hell and a home forever in heaven. When we consider how God’s love secured for us such awesome benefits and blessings, how dare we question His motives? If He loved us enough to die for us, then surely He can be trusted in the middle of our pain and problems.

Dear Lord, I know very well that Your love is vast beyond reckoning. But in these days of struggle, it’s difficult for me to feel what I know. I choose now to simply rest on the biggest truths of my life: Jesus loves me, died for my sins, and has won a place for me in heaven.
