One of my most precious memories of my father was having him tiptoe into the living room while I was playing the piano. For a long while, I didn’t see him. Then I caught him out of the corner of my eye, sitting in the chair just behind the piano bench. Suddenly, the music I was making seemed much more important. I played with extra care and greater feeling—all because I knew my daddy was listening. Oh, friend, how much more important are the life choices you are making! Do you live out your confession of faith in Christ with carefulness and great feeling? If you knew—really knew—the Lord of the universe was near, cupping His ear to listen, would it change what you say and do? Of course it would.

Today’s Scripture reminds us that “the LORD hears the needy.” God is listening. May that knowledge inspire great joy—rather than fear—in your heart today. God hears you!

By faith this morning, Lord, I see You out of the corner of my eye. You are listening in to my conversations, observing my actions, and even considering the thoughts that pass through my mind. You hear my sighs and my songs. That makes me want to do my best today to please You and to bring pleasure to Your heart.
