A Spectacle Of Glory #253

Read: Deuteronomy 5:23-24

Can you remember your first sight of the ocean? Maybe you were a child, camping at the beach. You ran up a little sand dune . . . and there it was, so impossibly big and wonderful. Or maybe you were older when you first filled your eyes with the wide Atlantic or majestic Pacific. The sight may have made you feel very small, and that diminished sense of self probably made the massive ocean seem even more regal.

Today’s Scripture describes the first time God showed His glory to the elders of God’s people. They, too, felt small in the presence of One so powerful and overwhelming. With Job, they may have said, “I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes.”^a Take time today to fill your eyes with God. Empty your heart of cherished ideas of your own importance. Feel your smallness, and be glad you belong to Someone awesome.

Yes, God, I am a very tiny soul in Your vast universe. Yet for some reason, You have loved me and chosen me, and You call me by name. You have said, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”^b I can lose myself in Your greatness, but can never be lost to You.
