A Spectacle Of Glory #240
A Spectacle of Glory #240
Read: Hebrews 12:27
Southern California is earthquake country. Those of us who love the sunny, Mediterranean climate must also accept the shaking and rumbling that occasionally awaken residents in the night. And, of course, we know that The Big One could be right around the corner.
In today’s Scripture, God tells us that one day, all created things will be undone by a massive shaking “so that what cannot be shaken may remain.”a And what are those things that can’t be shaken? Consider this: You may lose your health, your strength, your home, or your retirement funds, but you have your salvation. You are forever a child of God. Friends and family may disappoint you or turn against you, but you have the constant love of Christ. You may suffer greatly on earth, but you have the unshakable promise that you will never suffer in heaven. This is a good moment to reflect on all that will not, that cannot, be shaken in your life.
Father, today I pray with David, “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.”b What a wonder! How I praise You! You have given me an assurance deep within that nothing in this world—even death itself—can trouble or sway me.
a Emphasis mine.
