God delights in using ordinary objects to accomplish His mighty purposes. Friends of the apostle Paul saved him from a murderous ambush by lowering him in a basket through an opening in the city wall. A basket! Here was Paul, mighty apostle to the Gentiles, a man who would one day write almost a third of the New Testament, and God used what might have been someone’s laundry hamper to save his life. What a reminder that God is intimately involved in your life today, protecting you and rescuing you in a thousand ways! But for the most part, you’ll have no idea you’re being rescued. That’s because God’s miraculous intervention is often so very ordinary. He may use a seat belt, an alarm clock, a hairbrush, a pocketknife, or a cell phone to keep you from harm and to direct You. His means may be ordinary, but His care is extraordinary.

Lord, I’m in awe that You never tune out of my day and all my doings. Nothing is trivial. Nothing is overlooked. Nothing is disregarded. You know how to use the most common things in my daily experience to help me, direct me, teach me, and rescue me from harm.
