Where Did I Go Wrong?

Where Did I Go Wrong?

Hall of Fame football coach Tom Landry said, “I have learned that something constructive comes from every defeat.” Don’t you wish you could get credit for such a wise statement? The wonderful thing about football is that every play is on film so that every movement can be reviewed, dissected, and analyzed. We don’t have that luxury in our lives, but time in reflection can assist us in knowing where and why we were successful, as well as where and why we weren’t.

When we lose, we need to allow defeat to shape us. You see, defeat has a way of causing us to reflect, take inventory, and bring about proper change. Defeat is fruitful because it causes us to ask, “Where did I go wrong?” This question leads to wisdom and knowledge because it exposes where and when we left the game plan to go our own way.

Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs’s book Game Plan for Life is the fruit that has come from his defeat. In this book, Gibbs turns to eleven experts to examine the critical topics for which every man must have a plan.

Consider the words of Proverbs 4:5: “Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.” Have you left God’s game plan for your life? He has wisdom and understanding available to you. As you read the Scripture and engage with the experts like those in Coach Gibbs’s book, you will find the good judgment that you need so that there is fruit from the defeat and a win that is waiting in the wings.

Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.
