Way Too Fast
Way Too Fast
I looked up the other day and saw my six-year-old daughter swinging on the trapeze bar on the swing set. In an instant the truth that I can’t stop the hands of time hit me square between the eyes. She has grown so much lately, and before I know it, she will be headed off to college. Trying to keep her at this age is like trying to grasp oil in the hand.
After a moment, my thoughts of her growing up too fast were interrupted with the words, “Dad, can you come get me? This hurts my bottom.” After a chuckle, I said, “Absolutely,” and went to help her get down. I took her in my arms and asked her to not grow up. I asked, “Would you stay this age forever?” She laughed and said, “No, silly, my birthday is in April.”
You know, I can’t control time, but I can strive to maximize the moments I have been given. This is a gift from God. Ecclesiastes 3:10-11 states, “I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. He has made everything beautiful in its time” (ESV).
I am grateful that the Lord often reminds me to soak in the moment I have been given. Pretty soon, this season will be over, and Lord willing, I’ll be walking my little girl down the aisle. That will be beautiful, just as this season is beautiful. I want to be found faithful in each season of her life and not take the days we have together for granted.
Enjoy the moments of today, because you can’t get them back.
I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Ecclesiastes 3:10-11, ESV
