The Price of Greatness Is Responsibility

In his book Dad’s Playbook: Wisdom for Fathers from the Greatest Coaches of All Time, Tom Limbert says to fathers, “You have a tremendous impact on your family. Through your example, every day you show your children how to treat each other, how to handle adversity, and how to get things done. Make no mistake about it, it is a huge responsibility. But as the best coaches have shown us, the price of greatness is responsibility.”^a

Those words are heavy, aren’t they? One of the reasons our nation is weakening is because men are giving up their responsibility to lead their families. This is the path of least resistance that follows the response of Adam in the Garden when at the fall of man, he passed the buck.

Look at how Adam tries to blame Eve for his actions. Genesis 3:9-12 states,

Then the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.” “Who told you that you were naked?” the LORD God asked. “Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?” The man replied, “It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.”

Guys, let’s not pass the buck. I want to challenge you to take responsibility for your families. When you fail, admit it. When they fall, extend grace. Learn about them. Love them, and lead them to greatness.
