The Last Sixty

The Last Sixty

When you think of the number sixty, what comes to mind? Does the name Chuck Bednarik ring a bell? Bednarik was one of the last players in the NFL who played both ways, playing center on offense and linebacker on defense. He was best known for a legendary hit on Frank Gifford.

Today’s minute of vision marks the day when we are officially sixty days away from the end of the year. Let’s think back to the first of the year. How did you start? I would expect that many of us started this year with a great zeal to make improvements—losing weight, changing careers, going back to church, or checking things off our bucket lists. What kind of progress have you made on your goals? Are you further along than you thought you would be? Did you already accomplish the goals that you set for yourself?

In your final sixty days of this year, how will you live to finish stronger than you started? What if you lived these final sixty days like you did the first sixty of this year? What kind of momentum would you have going into next year? What changes that you make now would you take to the next level next year? Listen, it isn’t going to be easy. As a matter of fact, it may require you to play both ways, hit it harder than you have ever hit it before, and place yourself into an accountability relationship so you will finish what you started.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 states, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (ESV). Make the most of this final season of the year, and finish what you started.

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1, ESV
