The Action After The Action

The Action after the Action

Has your temper ever caused you to act like a fool? I bet every single one of us can relate to being hotheaded. In the 2014 NBA play-offs, Indiana Pacer Lance Stephenson did everything he could to get into LeBron James’s head. He even went so far as to blow in his ear, trying to elicit a foolish response. James kept his emotions intact, and he and his Heat continued to dominate the Pacers to make it to the NBA finals. After the game, when James was asked what he thought about Stephenson’s tactics, he said, “I’m just here to play basketball. . . . I don’t get into all of the extracurricular activities.”

It is easy to see a foolish reaction from a quick temper on the football field or basketball court. All you have to do is watch the action after the action. This extra action is the quick-tempered response that causes an entire team to be penalized because one of their players couldn’t handle his emotions.

Proverbs 14:17 says, “Short-tempered people do foolish things.” There are so many opportunities to lose your temper. Whether you are sitting in traffic and someone cuts you off, or you are disappointed by a friend or family member, it is easy to do and say things that you regret. Do you have control of your temper? If you don’t, rest assured that those on your team—your family, church, or coworkers—will also be penalized when you act like a fool.

Short-tempered people do foolish things.

Proverbs 14:17
