That Same Seven Or Eight

That Same Seven or Eight

If you are like me, you go on a diet, drop that first seven or eight pounds, and then get busy, frustrated, or just thrown off course by life, and stop your pursuit. I have probably lost fifty pounds over the past year. The problem is that it is that same seven or eight pounds that I’m losing, regaining, then losing again.

What keeps me from finishing? What is it in my character that causes me to settle for less than what is ideal for my health? What keeps me from breaking through to that next level of health, well-being, and appearance?

Proverbs 14:8 says, “The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways” (NIV). Have you considered your ways? What obstacles do you keep coming up against in your professional, relational, financial, or physical pursuits?

Whether it is the same seven or eight pounds for you, or some other barrier that you keep coming up against, I want to encourage you to give thought to your ways. If you see a pattern that has developed, put together a plan to overcome it. One of the best ways to do this is to engage an expert in the area where you need help. Seeking out a leader in your life—a trainer, a counselor, a financial adviser—can help you move past what’s standing in your way and navigate the changes that are necessary. Don’t let pride, excuses, or a lack of self-examination keep you from being the man God has called you to be.

The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways.
