Tenacious Leadership

After three ACL tears, rehabs, and returns to play, there doesn’t seem to be anything that Thomas Davis, Carolina Panthers linebacker, can’t overcome. Davis, who broke his arm in the 2015 NFC Championship game against the Arizona Cardinals, declared that he would play in the Super Bowl that year. He was quoted as saying, “Come on, you know me, right? I ain’t missing the Super Bowl, you better believe that.”^a

Tenacity to see the job through marks great athletes, great doctors, great leaders, and great men. To be a great husband and father, you must keep your destination in mind. The words you say and the actions you choose should flow out of a tenacious desire to love your wife and children in such a way as to make it through any adversity that may come.

Having a vision of golfing, fishing, or hunting with your sons when they are forty and you are seventy should help you deal with the crises of today. Being there to walk your daughter down the aisle and give her to her new husband should compel you to live well today. Seeing the family gathered around you and your wife at your fiftieth wedding anniversary should be a motivating vision for how you can make investments toward that future moment. Your attitude ought to be, “Come on, you know me, right? I ain’t missing those moments.”

Look at the tenacious vision and love of our God as stated in Jude 1:24: “Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.”

Do you see the vision that God has for us? May we also have a clear vision for our future and a tenacious love that helps us navigate our choices today!
