Can I Have a Do Over?

A pastor tells the story of the shortest play ever. It opened and closed on the same day in London in 1875. On opening night, the director was disgusted with the first act and informed the audience that the play would not continue. Initially excited for the play to open, the director had ordered champagne and served the actors before the play began. Apparently a number of the cast had a few too many drinks, resulting in the horrible first act. I am sure the director wanted a do over.

If you’re like me, I’m sure that there are times when you wished you had a do over. We can’t undo anything we’ve said or done, but when we receive God’s grace through faith, we receive a pardon for our sins. The Scripture calls this “justification” and describes it in Romans 3:23-25:

Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.

If you have yet to put your faith in Jesus, make today the day. God’s grace is our do over. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, you can be forgiven for all your mistakes. Pray this prayer with me to receive Christ as your Savior:

Heavenly Father, I need a do over. I have sinned and have fallen short of your standard. Please forgive me. Thank you for making me right in your sight, God, because I have put my faith and trust for my salvation in the Lord Jesus. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
