Blisters And Forgiveness
Blisters and Forgiveness
Toward the end of her kindergarten year, there was a day when my daughter, Carson, failed to put on her socks with her shoes. By the time we got to her school, her shoes had irritated the blister on her small toe, which had come from wearing her new church sandals earlier that week.
After dropping Carson off at school, I told her I would bring her socks to her. I got home, picked up a pair of socks, put them in a bag with her name and the teacher’s name on it, set the bag down, and left it there the rest of the day.
When I picked up my daughter from school that afternoon, I realized my error. I was disappointed in myself because I knew I had disappointed her. I said, “Carson, I am so sorry. I set them aside. I just didn’t leave the house with them.” Do you know what this mature little girl said to me?
She said, “That’s okay. I forgive you, Daddy.” What a blessing to hear!
Colossians 3:13 states, “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” We need to hear “I forgive you” when we disappoint someone else. We also need to say those words to others who have disappointed us. There is power in your words, and when you receive and extend the words of forgiveness, the sting of the blister subsides.
Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
