Aruba, Jamaica, We Ain’t Gonna Take Ya

Aruba, Jamaica, We Ain’t Gonna Take Ya

I love the beach, and I love the music of the Beach Boys. I especially love the beach when it is just Julee and me there. Don’t get me wrong—I love playing in the sand with my kids, but I truly love just sitting oceanside with my wife.

For our twentieth anniversary, Julee and I planned a trip to Aruba. We had been there sixteen years earlier, but we hadn’t returned and thought this milestone in our lives was a good time to go back.

As we were preparing for the trip, our kids kept saying, “We want to go! Take us!” Someday we hope to, but we have found one thing that fuels our marriage and our love for one another is to strategically get away at least one time a year, just by ourselves. Two times a year is ideal, but we must have at least one getaway with just the two of us. So when they would say, “Take us!” my wife would sing out, “Aruba, Jamaica, we ain’t gonna take ya.”

We enjoyed nearly a week together on the beach. We rented a jeep and toured the island. We went to a beautiful place to relax together and renew our love.

Proverbs 5:18 says, “Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth” (ESV). Kiss your kids good-bye, get out of town, and go drink deeply of your love for each other! This intentional time will strengthen your marriage in a special way as you make new memories together.

Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Proverbs 5:18, ESV
