A Proverb a Day

Have you ever discovered your propensity to be both wise and foolish? I have. You see, I have figured out that there are moments when wisdom has danced in my heart, and there are moments when folly has streamed forth from my lips. I wish I were only wise.

Proverbs 14:16 states, “One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless” (ESV). I have been both cautious and reckless, wise and foolish, in the same day, and I hate the inconsistencies! But here is what I have also discovered through the years: “A proverb a day keeps the fool at bay.”

You may have noticed that a lot of the daily devotionals in A Minute of Vision for Men have come from the book of Proverbs. I find its thirty-one chapters very practical and applicable. It seems to be written especially for men, as it is short, pithy, memorable, and to the point. Its teaching is rich and lasting. For each day of the month, there is a chapter in Proverbs full of wisdom just for me. If today is the fourteenth day of the month, I read Proverbs 14. If tomorrow is the fifteenth, then I will read Proverbs 15.

Proverbs will challenge you in your finances, your relationships, your business practices, and your view of life and death. Open the book of Proverbs each day, and you will see, “A proverb a day keeps the fool at bay.”

One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless.
