A Mature Man of Faith, Part 3

We may look at Joseph only as a guy who became the father of a baby that wasn’t his offspring and raised him as his own. We may think, What character! What obedience to God’s plan! And what sacrifice!

Although all those thoughts apply to Joseph, we miss the true purpose of his sacrifice. As a mature man of faith, Joseph’s sacrifice meant that others would find joy. When mature men of faith give sacrificially, others can find joy.

Consider how many people in the years since Jesus’ birth have come to know the joy of the Savior. Joseph, who was just an ordinary man, had an incredible part to play in the genealogy of Jesus. Joseph may have been ordinary, but his extraordinary obedience gave us an amazing example to follow.

Remember the words of Luke 2:10-11 today as the angels announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds: “The angel reassured them. ‘Don’t be afraid!’ he said. ‘I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!’”

This announcement of joy is for you, too. Thankfully, the Father in heaven saw to it to give Jesus an earthly father of great faith so that we, too, might experience this joy.

The angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!”
